WhatsApp update includes Android Wear support

Android Wear was released just a few months ago, but the main apps are quickly adding support for the new OS. WhatsApp has been one of the first to include the new devices running Android Wear, currently the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live (and soon the Moto 360).

The app released a beta version last month, which included Android Wear support, so we had the possibility to test it updating the sideloaded beta app. However, not everybody wants to try a beta version on their mobile devices. So, for many, it’s a good new that finally the official 2.11.362 update is now available on the Play Store.

With this update, we can have all the main characteristics of the mobile app on the Wear devices. So, we can discard notifications with a swipe, reply via voice option and full long message viewing among others.

The possibility to use WhatsApp in your smart watch will be an important addition to the new devices running Android Wear, as it is one of the main IM apps used worldwide. It’s expected that other apps will follow its example, and in the next months, there will be more apps updating to include support for the new OS.

In addition to the Wear support, the update also fixes some bugs and improves message storage reliability. You can find it on the Play Store.
