OnePlus One will get Android L update

OnePlus has just confirmed that its flagship device, the OnePlus One, will be updated to Android L.

The company has made the announcement through its forum webpage, affirming that the upgrade will take no longer than three months after Google officially releases Android L. As it will take place during the last semester of the year, the update will arrive at the beginning of 2015.

The OnePlus One is currently running under CyanogenMod 11, so it will probably need a new version of this software, expected then by the beginning of the next year.

The OnePlus One raised a lot of expectation when it was presented, as it offers amazing features at a very reasonable price. The OnePlus One has a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor running at 2.5 GHz. It also includes 3GB of RAM, and a 5.5-inch screen with Gorilla Glass and 1080 pixel resolution. The device also has a 13 MP rear camera with a Sony Exmor sensor with f/2.0 aperture, to capture good images in poor lighting conditions.

The device was officially presented by the end of April, and the price was the main attractive of the device. It will go on sale for $299 (the model with 16 GB of memory) and $349 (the 64 GB version).

The news of the future update is interesting for the many people waiting the acquire the device. However, its lack of availability is starting to blur the expectation that rose at his presentation. They had suffered some delay and have not yet reach the market, something that could affect badly the company’s reputation in the future.
