Lollipop update for the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact

Sony has announced an OTA update for the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact that upgrades those devices to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with the 3.4 kernel (built number 23.1.A.0.690).

The first countries to get the update will be the Nordics and Baltics, and from there, the OTA will reach the rest of the markets gradually.

With this version, you will find the whole lot of new features that come with Lollipop, such as the new notification screen with the customizable settings, the multi user mode and possibility to move apps to the SD card.

Sony has posted the full list of changes that you can expect with the new version:

Fresh, streamlined looks – based on Google’s material design, but retaining our minimalistic approach to interface and application design.

New look notifications and lock screen – with fully customizable settings, so you only get the information you really need.

Multi user profiles and guest mode – making it easy for family and friends to use your device, or the creation of dual environments for work and play…

Android for Work – not only are business-ready Xperia smartphones and tablets unique devices for work – with waterproof form factors, great battery life and productivity features – they will now also be part of the Android for Work ecosystem.

Better storage control and customisation – with the option to easily move applications from internal memory to SD card – giving you more control over your content, particularly useful for devices with slightly less space.

As this is a major update, be sure to use a Wi-Fi network to download the file. Once ready to install, check that the battery is charged enough and wait for some minutes until the phone finally restarts.
