Galaxy S4 GPE gets Android 5.0 Lollipop

Google Play Edition devices are receiving the corresponding updates to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Galaxy S4 hadn’t get the new Android version yet, but finally it’s here. After the LG G Pad GPE and the HTC One M7 and M8 GPE, finally the Galaxy S4 GPE is getting the same update.

The Galaxy S4 was the first phone to be released as Google Play Edition device. It was launched a year and a half ago, an with its 5-inch screen, 2 GB or RAM and a quad-core processor it’s still a great device.

The version is 5.0.0, not the last 5.0.1 that received the HTC One M7 and M8 a few days ago. If you are the owner of a Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, you will need to wait a little more to get rid of the small issues that forced Google to release a 5.0.1 version a few weeks after the initial Lollipop release.

If you can’t wait for the notification regarding the OTA update, you can check manually for its availability, or you can download the OTA file directly from Google’s servers. In any case, you should check that you are using a Wi-Fi network to download the file, as it weights about 500 MB. It’s also advisable to have the phone fully charged before starting the download.
