Cyanogenmod 12 Nightlies, ready for a collection of devices

Cyanogenmod has started to release its new software version. CM 12 Nightlies are built on Lollipop 5.0.2, the latest Android version available, and it’s ready for a handful of devices.

The company announced the release a couple of days ago, ready for 31 devices. They plan to add more devices weekly, so you can keep an eye of their blog to see when there is a version available for you device.

As the company has pointed out, it’s a first release, and some features are not implemented. They provided a list of the main missing items that will be added in future releases:

Theme Engine.
Quick Settings reorganization and customization.
Quick Settings Ribbon mode.
Navigation bar reorganization and customization.
Sound panel customization.
Lock-screen quick unlock.
Lollipop

Despite these features, all the device included in the list below will have full hardware support for the basic functionalities, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, camera and phone calls. However, you should keep in mind that as these are nighlies, there are going to be bugs. If you install it on your device, you may have some problems with additional hardware (for example, IR support), but it will be corrected in the next updates.

If you are the owner of one of these devices and want to install the new version, remember to update your third party addons, as they need to be compatible with Android 5.0 Lollipop. In addition, the CM backupscript.sh in recovery ignores and removes incompatible applications from your system partition, so you need to find a suitable app to get that functionality back.

Once those points have been solved, you can flash directly CM12 nightlies from CM11 M12 or CM 11 nightlies without wiping your device. However, when you have CM12 installed, you can’t go back to CM11 without wiping, so make sure to have a backup before starting the update (and you will need a recovery compatible with Android 5.0 Lollipop!).
