Almost a month ago, Sony started to roll out Lollipop for the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. The update was first released in some selected markets (the Nordics and the Baltics), and then, the new version has been gradually expanding to the rest of the world.
A few days ago, Sony announced the international release of the update, and included several other devices as well, such as the the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 Compact. They announced that Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet were the next devices to get the update, and now it’s here.
The new software versions is 23.1.A.0.690, which corresponds to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Sony has not detailed much about the update, but this is the main changes that you can expect:
Sony’s latest software experience, with Android 5.0 – Lollipop
A fresh look and feel, based on Google Material Design
Intelligent lock screen notifications and customisable settings
Enhanced multi-user profiles and guest mode
Storage optimisation; move apps to SD card
The update is rolling out at different times depending on the region and carrier, so it still may take a while to reach your device. To check if the update is ready for you, go to “Settings” and tap on “About phone”. From there, go to “Software updates” and check if there are any update available by tapping on “System updates”. If the file is ready for you, just follow the instructions to download and install the new version.
It’s a major update, so be sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and check that your battery is charged enough.
