Android 5.1 has started to roll out to several of the Google Play Edition devices. Now the update is ready for the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition. If you have the device running Android 5.0, then the update will only require the download of a 200 MB file.
The LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition was presented back in December 2013, and it’s still a pretty good device. The LG G Pad 8.3 GPE is a 8.3-inch tablet with an IPS Full HD display and 1920×1200 pixels, which provides a resolution of 273 ppi. It packs a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card. The tablet includes two cameras, a rear one with a 5 MP sensor and a front one with 1.3 MP. It’s a rather compact device (216.8 x 126.5 x 8.3 mm) with a weigh of 338 grams.
If you have already got the notification, just follow the instructions to download and install the file. However, if you have one of those devices but there is still no news about the update, try to search for it manually. To do so, go to “Settings” and tap on “About tablet”. From there, move to “System updates” and check if there is any available.
Keep in mind that with Lollipop, if you have made any change to the system software, the OTA update will fail (this includes a simple root with the stock recovery). If this is your case, then you need to wait a bit longer until the factory image is available.
If you want to download the OTA file, you can get it directly from this link.
