Google Play Edition of several devices are getting the update to Android 5.1 these days. HTC One M8 has started to receive the update to the latest software version, which is just over 244 MB large.
It was first announced by Mo Versi, in a tweet that says that “approval for both M8 & M7 GPE versions have been granted by Google for 5.1 OS”. So, if you have a M7 GPE, the update is really close.
With Android 5.1 Lollipop, you will get some tweaks to the way notifications interruptions are handled and mainly a lot of little bug fixes.
Android 5.1 brings battery life improvements and a enhanced Quick Settings menu, which provides quicker access to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections. There are also stronger security features to protect owners of stolen or lost devices. Finally, Android 5.1 also includes high definition calling between devices running the new Android version.
Check your notifications to see if the OTA is ready waiting for you. If the file is not there yet, it’s just a matter of days until it reach your phone, keep an eye on the Settings menu. If you don’t want to wait fot the update to be ready, you can download the update file directly from Google’s server from this link.
There is no word on when Android 5.1 will reach the regular HTC One M7 and M8. However, the new HTC One M9 has been released on April 10, running Android 5.1 out of the box.
