Just a few days ago, HTC announced that the unlocked and developer version of the HTC One M8 were receiving the OTA update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The carrier versions, however, were supposed to wait a bit longer due to the certification process.
AT&T has announced now an update for their version of the One M8, but it’s not Android 5.0 Lollipop yet. This update bring the software from Android 4.4.3 to Android 4.4.4, adding some useful features.
The main change that you will get if you are one of the owners of a AT&T One M8 is the addition of the HD voice functionality, so you will enjoy a much improved sound quality when speaking with another HD voice user.
There are also other improvements, such as the battery life or the Bluetooth performance. Here you can find the detailed changelog provided by AT&T:
Enables HD Voice
Updates Android OS to Android 4.4.4
Security enhancement
Bluetooth enhancement
Adds AMBS Cloud Messaging Integration
Adds Copy and Paste camera feature
Adds Usage Manager App
Improves battery performance
Updates AT&T Ready2Go
Updates Visual Voicemail
As usual, you can either wait for the notification to reach you device or you can check for it manually. To do so, drag down the notification bar and tap on “Settings”. Once there, you have to go to the “AT&T Software update” option and tap on “Check for updates”.
Once the file has been downloaded and installed, you can check that the software version you have is the last one available: 1.58.502.1. You can find this number under the “Software information” option, in the “About” menu.
Just remember to connect to a Wi-Fi network to download the file and to have the battery at least half charged before starting the installation.
