Confirmed Samsung Galaxy devices that will update to Android Marshmallow

Through an official list that comes from South Korea we have not only the list of “updatable” devices but also the timing in which they are going to be updated, revealing twelve smartphones that will receive update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow before any other Samsung Galaxy in the first quarter of 2016.

The truth is that there are few surprises in this supposedly confirmed and official schedule revealed by a reliable source of web samsungviet.vn, a Vietnamese website specializing in the Korean company. They offer us the list of smartphones that will receive the corresponding OTA before the end of the first quarter of 2016. The question it is whether they would be made before the submission of the Samsung Galaxy S7 or later, which will be provide during the Mobile World Congress 2016.

As we can see in the image above, and presumably, the first to receive the update are the last to have been released. That is, they are the latest smartphones and tablets that have been presented in 2015, as the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+. After these, also 2014 devices will receive the update in the first quarter, being the first the Samsung Note Edge, Note 4 (and Duos), Samsung Galaxy S5, S5 Neo and LTE-A.

The second round is now smaller and it is also for 2014 smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and tablets like Galaxy Tab A and S2 (models of 9.7 inches and 8 inches). In the list, surely, we are missing many other updates and devices, also dates. In particular it seems that there are no schedule for updating the A series that came after the Alpha last year as well as more basic ranges of the company. In theory, any terminal that came to live two years ago has assured an update when a new version of Android is available, but we have to see if this ends up here or still there is a lot to come (we will keep asking when).
