Big update for the Amazon Fire Phone


Amazon had a serious problem to sell their first smartphone, the Fire Phone. A few weeks ago, they drop the price in an attempt to get rid of the stock, but the phone is not selling well enough.

The Fire Phone has a 4.7-inch screen with 1280×720 pixels, a Quad-core Snapdragon running at 2.2 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. Amazon has two models available, with 32 GB ands 64 GB of internal memory, and it bring some unique features, such as dynamic perspective, Firefly technology and Mayday.

Now, the company has announced a big update for the Fire Phone, with a lot of improvements to the battery life, camera and lock screen among many others. For the unlocked Fire Phones, the new version is Fire OS 3.6.8 (128003620), while the ones from AT&T will update to Fire OS 3.6.5 (125013320). Translate text and identify famous artwork with Firefly. Text translation from/to: English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish, and artwork recognition for 2,000 famous paintings with info available from Wikipedia.
Take the perfect picture with Best Shot. See three versions of a given photo to choose the perfect shot.
Enable or disable SMS / MMS settings. You can now turn character counts and MMS on or off.
Select additional keyboard languages. Choose from seven preloaded keyboard languages and 49 additional keyboard languages to download.
Block unwanted phone numbers. Decline unwanted calls from any given contact.

Add custom ringtones to your phone. Add custom ringtones from the Amazon Appstore to your Fire phone.
View more information from the lock screen. Control music directly from the lock screen, and configure your phone to wake up when a new notification arrives.
Write and edit documents with WPS Office. Edit documents using the new, preloaded WPS Office app.
Connect to a virtual private network (VPN) at work. Connect to a secure, corporate VPN from your Fire using the native IPSec / L2TP VPN client to stay productive while on the go.

Improved battery life. Dozens of systems updates for enhanced battery performance.
Bug fixes and user interface improvements. Hundreds of other bug fixes and user interface improvements.
