Google has posted the news on the official Android blog, so we can say that Android 5.1 is officially here.
Back on February, Android 5.1 appeared at the Indonesian website announcing the launch of Android One. From there, the official release of the new Android versions was more o less expected by the end of the month or by early March.
Well, Google has not deceived anybody and now Android 5.1 is finally out. The new version will fix some important problems that came with Lollipop, such as some sudden closures of some applications, some issues with “Ok Google”, with the sound and with the notifications.
In addition, you can also expect an overall improvement of the system stability, a better management of the RAM and the battery and a reduced consumption of data when connected to a Wi-Fi network. Android 5.1 will also improves stability and performance and will offer a few new features like support for multiple SIM cards, Device Protection and high definition (HD) voice on compatible phones.
There are also a few new features, such as the ability to join Wi-Fi networks and controlling your paired Bluetooth devices directly from Quick Settings.
Ah, and the silent mode is back.
Google has not detailed which devices will get the new version, but it’s expected that the Nexus and the GPE phones are among the first on the list.
The new build is LMY47D, and the factory images for the Nexus family have started to roll out. Some of them are already available, and the other ones will probably appear the next days.
