How to update the OnePlus One to KitKat 4.4.4

OnePlus One is one of the most wanted phones these days. It features amazing specs at a much cheaper price than its competitors, but they are really hard to find. The distribution has become such a problem that many people have been losing interest lately.

The OnePlus One runs CyanogenMod, and now you have the option to install Android 4.4.4. The company has published the new on its forum website, with the downloading links and the instructions to install it.

If you already know how to install a custom ROM, here there are the links to the files you are going to need:

Once you have the file downloaded, you just need to unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery. In the OnePlus One forum, there is a thread with an extensive guide about how to unlock the bootloader and root the phone.

Then, we can proceed with the recovery (we just need to reboot and press power + volume down until the phone vibrates) and wipe the devices. Now we can flash the .zip file we have downloaded, flash Gapps and reboot again.

If you still have any question regarding the rooting of the phone, you can check this guide about how to root the OnePlus One.

There are some interesting points in this update. Normally, when we root a phone, we lose the warranty from the company, but this is not the case here. The company has assured that if we follow these steps, the new ROM will not void the warranty.

Another aspect to take into account is that this is the first version of Android 4.4.4 for that phone. The company expects some bugs, and assures that they are working on the ones already known and they are ready for the new ones that will appear. For example, the gyroscope may not work for all devices and encryption features and VPN don’t work.
